FOCUS ON KHON KAEN

Our next ‘home’ opponents, on Saturday 18th October, are Khon Kaen, sitting 17th in Division 1, having already been relegated, along with Sri Racha.

They lost their last match, 1-0, at home to BBCU. Let’s look at some key facts about Khon Kaen :

1. In the 16 matches that they have played this season, against the ‘Top 9’ teams, they have failed to win any of them, losing 11 and drawing 5. One of these drawn games was when CMFC went to the Khon Kaen stadium, earlier in the season. The only other result of note against a top team, was a 2-2 draw at Saraburi. This was when Matias Recio was still a Khon Kaen player.

2. Khon Kaen have only scored 21 goals all season, and 5 of these were against Sri Racha. Junki Yokono, a Japanese player on loan to Khon Kaen, has been their top scorer with 7 goals.

3. The ‘T Rexs’ were founded in 2007 and they had one season in the TPL in 2011, when they finished 18th. Believe it or not, but Matias Recio was their top scorer for 2 seasons running, and he scored 20 goals for Khon Kaen in 2013. Their best finish in Division 1 was 2nd, in 2010.

CONCLUSION

Given the poor record of Khon Kaen against the top teams, this is a match that Chiang Mai should go into with some confidence.

PREDICTION
A 2-0 win for CMFC.
