After 6 weeks and 6 grueling matches against 3 of the top 5 teams Chiang Mai will hope to have an easier game this week at the 700 years stadium against 13th place Kampheng Phet.

In recent weeks the Tigers have played home and away against Phitsanulok, Chiang Rai City and Lampang and have come away with 4 wins and 2 draws and a very respectable 14 points, a tally which has seen them extend their lead at the top of the table to 5 points and has also seen them playing like a team that deserves to be champions. The other winners from this group of games are two teams now in the top 5 in which Chiang Mai didn’t play, Sukothai have now moved in to second spot and Nakon Sawan in to 3rd.

Last week Chiang Mai traveled to Lampang with almost 2500 fans to see the Tigers beat local rivals by 3 goals to 0. The first half was a typical derby game and both sides seemed a little nervous, the nerves were eased very early in the second half however after a great header by inform striker Chatchai Nakvijit, Chiang Mai pushed forward and Chatchai Nakvijit scored again in the 70th minute before Anon Buppha then put the game beyond Lampang in the 87th minute.

Probably the biggest games of the 6 came home and away against Phitsanulok, bith games were very tight, the first finished 0-0 at Phitsanulok, the game featured some very strong tackling and Chiang Mai did very well to come away with the draw, the second game was Chiang Mai’s last home game and almost 9000 fans saw local lad Supakit Jinajai cooly take the ball past a defender and slot it home past the keeper for the only goal of the game, the referee controlled the game really well when at times it looked like it could explode.

This weeks opponents have been having a bad time of it this season, they have lost 2 out of their last 3 games, but they will take encouragement from their win last week against Tak and will be looking to avoid a result like the previous meeting where The Tigers came away with a comfortable 3-1 win.

The team nicknamed the Diamond Walls, have 1 sebian and 5 Africans in their ranks one of which is their goalkeeper Moussa Sangare from Guinea.

The game is on Sunday 30th June with a kick off time around 6pm. As usual a group of English speaking ex-pats will meet in The Red Lion pub on night Bizzare a couple of hours before the game for a few beers and a bit of banter. Tickets for the game are available outside the main entrance on the day of the game. Prices range from 30-80thb.
