One slip on the turf, which led to one shot which led to one goal was enough for Chiang Mai to be beaten last time out against a very mediocre Nakon Sawan side last Saturday. The Tigers were without doubt the best side all way through the game but starting with out a striker and against a stubborn defense the blues were unable to turn the advantage in to goals with the free kick threat of Machuca being the closet they got. In a game that went slightly bizarre in the second half (1hour 15 minute delayed) due to floodlight failure and a dog deciding that the best place to roll about was the corner flag, it will be best forgotten by all in attendance from Chiang Mai.

Chiang Mai away support at Nakhon Sawan

This week the Tigers will look to get back to winning ways against Phrea Utd at the 700 years stadium on Saturday. Phrae came very close to joining Chiang Mai in the play-off league last season and were for me the best team we saw at the 700 year for the first half anyway before the game got called off due to extreme wet conditions at half time. Chiang mai went on to win the replay at Tessabaan stadium, the result gave Chiang Mai the championship.

Phrea have started the campaign with 2 draws and a win and currently sit 1 point behind Chiang mai fc in eighth position after three games. The horsemen will be boosted by a win last week against Lamphun Warriors at home and will be hoping to repeat that away this week. Chiang Mai Fc however will be hoping to put last week behind them and get back to winning ways. Phrae who hold 3 Ghanaian’s, 1 Ivorian and a Nigerian in their ranks have a strong side and Chiang Mai will have to fight hard in midfield to get the chances that they will need to win this game.

As always merchandise and refreshments will be available outside the stadium and as usual a group of English (and Scottish) speaking fans will meet at The Red Lion Pub on night bizarre road (between McDonalds and Burger King) a couple of hours before the game for a few drinks and a bit of banter. A lift to and from the stadium can usually be arranged in one of the cars.

The Game is Saturday the 9th of March and is a 6pm Kick Off.
